Bay links channel partners to distributors for online purchasing

Johannesburg, 23 Sep 1998

Bay Networks, a Northern Telecom (Nortel) business, has announced enhancements to eNet Connections, its online business center and continues its commitment to make it easier, faster and more profitable to do business.

Rounding out its electronic commerce strategy, the Bay business has added enhancements for both its channel partners and its direct customers. In order to shorten the selling cycle, channel partners will be directly integrated with participating distributors, beginning with Westcon, Tech Data and Access Graphics.

Integration will allow resellers to purchase online and determine product availability, customised pricing and order status information. Existing direct customers can purchase products online and track real-time order status at www.baynetworks.com/enet.

These enhancements complement eNet Connections` existing functionality which enables users to search for product information, evaluate and configure products, and access Bay service and support online twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week.

"Bay`s ongoing goal is to provide the channel with a faster, easier and more profitable way to do business over the Internet," said Bay channel and marketing manager Francois Bodart.

"By adding online purchasing and directly linking the channel to distributors within the existing functionality of eNet Connections, we have eliminated many of the inefficiencies of placing an order - thereby making it easier and more profitable for our channel partners to do business with Bay."

The first step in the buying cycle is for resellers to configure the products they are interested in to determine that the appropriate equipment and options are selected. Once products are configured, all users can transfer their product information to their Shopping List, which acts as a repository for intended purchases.

Channel partners use their Shopping Lists to submit orders directly to a participating distributor`s site, thereby eliminating the need to re-enter order information.

As another means of shortening the sales cycle for its channel business partners, Bay has added real-time order tracking to the suite of applications available at www.baynetworks.com/enet.

Companies with an existing direct purchasing relationship with Bay can use the real-time order status capability to track any order placed with Bay via the Web, phone or fax. Online purchasing through direct distributor links and real-time order tracking are now available at http://www.baynetworks.com/enet.
