Bay Networks again dominated the world workgroup fast Ethernet switching market by claiming a 40 percent share in both revenue and ports according to a recent survey conducted by the Dell`Oro Group. Bay beat closest rival 3Com by 11 percentage points in revenue share as a result of record shipments of the award winning BayStack 350 10/100 switch which has more than one million installed ports. More than 20 000 of these ports were installed in South Africa. The Dell`Oro report says the worldwide workgroup Ethernet switching market has grown five percent in revenue and 20 percent in ports since its previous (Q3) report in 1997. It also reveals that Bay has continued to grow faster than the market, with revenues increasing by 30 percent and ports increasing by 56 percent over the same period during 1997. Bay achieved similar growth in the shared fast Ethernet market with a 31 percent revenue gain, going from 19 percent to 26 percent revenue share for this period. Overall, Bay outclassed its competitors in the fast Ethernet switched market by claiming 38 percent in revenue and by again growing faster than the market, achieving more than 20 percent growth.
