Johannesburg-based software development house Barone, Budge & Dominick (BB&D) has formed an international division that will focus on developing solutions for a global customer base.
Headed up by Peter Weeks, who previously ran programme management, systems integration and testing and development at banking group Nedcor, Barone, Budge & Dominick-International (BB&D-I) will leverage off BB&D`s 20-year track record in South Africa and successful projects in the U.K., the U.S., Mexico and Brazil to build its international arm.
BB&D-I will have access to BB&D`s Johannesburg and Cape Town offices employing more than 200 staff to develop and implement solutions for foreign companies.
Turnkey development, technical reviews and architectural recommendations, product engines and stand-alone and packaged products will all form part of BB&D-I`s offering.
Weeks, who oversaw the merger of Nedcor and BOE from a project synergy and tracking perspective, believes South Africa has several major factors favouring it as a centre for global software development.
These factors include South African time being zero to two hours ahead of the U.K. and Europe, a large pool of skills in the financial services and IT sectors, and the lower cost geography compared to Europe or the U.S. with English as the business language.
"BB&D has already won international business in spite of strong competition from other software developers and we`re optimistic we can build on this achievement," said Weeks.
Said Ralf Dominick, a founder and director of BB&D: "We`ve got a reputation for providing valuable, effective and differentiated offerings from a South African base so we`re starting off on the right footing".
