Barone Budge & Dominick's Business Technology Unit (BTU) got off to a bang in 2008 with a "kick-off" session held at the Sunnyside Park Hotel in Johannesburg on 24 January.
The objective of the session was to:
* Welcome all analysts to BTU
* Introduce the mission and vision of BTU
* Highlight the value proposition of BTU
* Introduce the core members
* Highlight the topics calendar for the first quarter of 2008
* Make an official call for presenters for the regular BTU sessions
* Provide insight into the mentorship concept
* Demonstrate the key areas of the knowledge base
* Introduce workshops
* Officially announce the start of the BTU book
The session followed the enormous success of 2007 during which the analyst community within BB&D was re-introduced to the initiatives and efforts of BTU. It was a year in which the analyst community was brought closer together and the process of knowledge-sharing and analyst networking started to take off.
The BTU Core team decided that considering their past success in bringing the analyst community closer together, it was essential to start off the year in the same vein.
The session was very well attended with more than 40 analysts attending from the various project teams within BB&D, including representatives from Cape Town.
The last item in the session was about the upcoming BTU book being published. This book will follow in the tradition of the previous BB&D books that were written by ASTRA members.
It will focus on topics of relevance to BTU, such as project management and analysis, but will no doubt stray into various other areas of interest.
