Mining giant AngloGold Ashanti has awarded Business Connexion (BCX) an outsourcing contract worth R300 million over three years.

This is believed to be one of the largest outsourcing contracts yet to be awarded in the local mining sector.

BCX says the contract will run for at least three years, with an option to extend it by another two years.

BCX Johannesburg regional CE Sydney Ramutla says the contract is geared to help the company meet its , performance and value creation targets.

The group will provide services including support centre, IT Infrastructure Library-based services, and technology planning and organisation.

Other services include server and desktop support and centre services, network services and application services for the local operations.

BCX will also advise the mining group on the adoption and implementation of long-term regional IT strategy.

AngloGold Ashanti is a global gold mining company with mining operations in Africa, the Americas and Australia.

A JSE-listed group, it was formed in April last year through the merger of AngloGold and Ashanti Goldfields.

BCX recently reported a 45.9% increase in interim headline earnings to 23.2c a share despite a dip in revenue from R1.42 billion to R1.36 billion.

CEO Peter Watt said the decline in revenue was mainly because there were fewer contracts awarded in Africa, as well as delays in respect of those that were awarded. The second half of the year was looking stronger, he said.
