The State Information Technology Agency (SITA) is on the verge of completing a comprehensive database of BEE suppliers in all nine provinces. This project, started in April, is due for completion in the next few weeks.
According to SITA Business Portfolio Manager, Lerato Makhatha, all necessary information on vendors in the provinces has been gathered. "We are in the process of consolidating that information into a database that will be easily accessible."
The project has resulted in the registration of approximately 120 vendors, who went through vendor presentations to determine their capacity. All suppliers satisfied certain SITA criteria, of which BEE involvement is a main consideration. The vendor presentations are set to continue.
"We are looking for BEE vendors who will be able to supply a total spectrum of solutions and services to meet with local governments' requirements. This will enhance SITA's ability to procure directly from vendors in various provinces, saving time and money. It will also allow for greater contributions to local economic development through increased participation from local companies in Government contracts," says SITA's Local Government Manager, Thabo Mokgatle.
"The suppliers are also vetted by SITA to ensure they are truly BEE companies or have a high stake of BEE involvement and not fronting BEE participation as is sometimes the case," he says.
The key objectives of the registration process are to:
* Identify all ICT suppliers that have, are currently and plan to provide business solutions to all tiers of government.
* Identify business solutions that have been supplied, are currently being supplied and are planning to be provided to government.
* To also analyse the effectiveness of these solutions.
