The Financing Black Empowerment Partnerships conference, to be staged at the Sandton Convention Centre next month, will explore best practices in financing small and medium enterprises (SMEs).
Organised by Terrapin and endorsed by empowerment rating agency Empowerdex, the event will run from 28 to 31 March. Conference attendees will have the opportunity to comment on the new BEE codes, including the ICT BEE charter codes.
There will be a half-day workshop on phase two of the BEE codes, says conference manager Yeukai Manyakara. "This will include comparisons with the ICT charter codes.
"BEE in SA has allowed for the growth of SMEs and these organisations have the potential to be greater than they are, with effective finance measures in place," Manyakara adds.
These companies have to rely on financing from various initiatives, he says. "In this context, stakeholders will meet to discuss initiatives that will pave the way in terms of effective financing of BEE."
Conference speaker Khehla Mthembu, Old Mutual SA CEO for Gauteng, will talk about best practice in empowerment partnerships, incentives and support programmes for SMEs and BEE companies.
Bheki Sibiya, chairman of Brait SA, will explore opportunities and challenges in financing BEE deals as well as the impact of legislation on BEE charters.
Other confirmed speakers include Derrick Msibi, executive director, Old Mutual; Tarah Shaanika, CEO of the Namibian Chamber of Commerce; Leaker Hangala, MD of NamPower; Patrick Maesela, CEO of Zonkizizwe Financial Services; and Kago Capital director Ochieng Okeyo.
