BEE software targets SMEs

Black economic empowerment (BEE) solutions company Caird Consulting has developed scorecard aimed at helping businesses comply with BEE requirements.

The company says the program was designed because many small and medium enterprises (SMEs) do not know how to comply with BEE guidelines, and do not have the time and finances to hire BEE consultants.

Caird says the EconoScorecard software has the capability to identify critical aspects of the BEE process by taking the user through a series of simple steps. Once the process has been completed, a scorecard can be produced which is relevant to the user`s particular criteria.

IT specialist at Caird, Keith Levenstein, says the EconoScorecard is aimed mostly at SMEs. He says it is user-friendly and should not be a problem to install, even for those with only a basic knowledge of computer software.

Levenstein says most SMEs "struggle with technology usage in their businesses", so the company also stages seminars to users about software installations.

"Users are taken through `what if` scenarios to see how a particular BEE will affect their overall score, and the final output is a summary scorecard for potential customers to assess the BEE status of their suppliers."
