Bell adds networking to HP offering

HP has handed distributor Bell Micro access to its full networking portfolio shortly after completing its $2.7 billion acquisition of 3Com, reports Computing.co.uk.

This will mean Bell can offer HP's full enterprise line-up encompassing servers, storage and networking, in line with the vendor's new Converged Infrastructure vision.

On 1 May, 3Com ally Bell was awarded HP Networking status, joining incumbents Ingram Micro, Computer 2000, Westcoast, Anixter and Comstor.

Cisco to acquire CoreOptics

Cisco Systems will buy CoreOptics for about $99 million in a deal that should push forward the company's optical networking business, states eWeek.

This comes at a time when service providers are looking for ways to handle the rapid growth of Internet traffic brought on by video, mobile devices and cloud computing.

With this acquisition, Cisco reinforces its commitment to continue to invest in its core networking business and to deliver IP next-generation networks at 100 [gigabits per second] and beyond," Surya Panditi, VP and GM of Cisco's service provider access and transport technology group, said in a statement.

Google faces WiFi lawsuit

After admitting it had inadvertently spied on some WiFi users, Google is the target in several investigations in Europe and at least one lawsuit in the US, says CNET News.

Pacific Northwest residents filed a class action lawsuit against Google alleging their privacy was violated when Google's Street View drove by their homes, detecting and storing data from the open WiFi Internet connections used in their homes. The news of the lawsuit was first reported by TechEye.net.

The case was filed in an Oregon district court.
