Better business intelligence from training: Synergy introduces new learning solutions

Johannesburg, 24 Mar 2004

Specialist business intelligence solution provider Synergy Computing is offering two new training courses designed to help companies maximise the value they get from their Cognos business intelligence (BI) software.

According to Synergy Services Manager Vera Chaplin, Synergy places a premium on the value of training as an integral component of a BI solution. "All too often, BI implementations take place but overlook the human component. This can result in a system not being used to its full potential; a technically successful solution could still fail to deliver real value simply because company employees haven't the skills to apply it."

As a result, says Chaplin, Synergy has introduced a Cognos Impromptu course that provides customised training on this popular reporting tool.

"The major benefit of this course is that people can relate better to their own data environment and as a result learn how to use the software tool far faster. With this course, aimed at middle to senior management, users of BI tools are able to learn quickly and are immediately effective in the use the Impromptu reporting tool when they get back to their desks."

It also allows users from the same organisation to come together and be involved in a "brainstorming" session where all the users interact and discuss their data reporting requirements. Doing this in the training course overcomes the common problem of getting all relevant staff together in one place to discuss these issues.

With the recent introduction of Cognos' ReportNet Web-based reporting software, Synergy has added the ReportNet training courses to its comprehensive range of Cognos training courses. With the high levels of interest in Cognos's leading reporting tool, Synergy has geared up to meet the training need that will follow. ReportNet courses offered cover the full suite of training from courses for business and professional authors to the modellers and administrators.

She says the company hosts training sessions at its own premises to avoid interruptions associated with the working environment, but notes that courses are designed to provide learners with a reflection of their production environments where possible.
