Bharti bullish on African expansion
Satellite Today says Bharti Airtel ordered Comtech's CDM-625 Advanced Satellite Modems and the Memotec CX-U Series.
Comtech president and CEO Fred Kornberg states: “Bharti Airtel will use Comtech equipment to facilitate significant growth planned for the African region.”
He adds: “The Comtech equipment was selected based on our track record of providing operators globally with infrastructure products that reduce operating expenses and increase throughput for satellite-based mobile backhaul.”
Bharti Airtel says it is looking to streamline its business in its recently-acquired African operations, according to FT.com.
The Delhi-based operator, which last year agreed a $10.7 billion deal to acquire the African operations of Kuwait-based Zain, is understood to be looking to merge its core mobile, satellite television, broadband and fixed-line businesses.
