Bidvest will launch its mymarket.com business-to-business exchange next year, which is said to complement, not replace its existing channels.

The e-commerce project will allow Bidvest customers and suppliers to trade electronically, and will enable them to set up their own e-markets.

Bidvest, a listed industrial holdings company that has a market capitilisation of R13 billion, will wholly own and operate mymarket.com.

The trading exchange will leverage off the current structure and the company says it has the critical mass to provide mymarket.com with the requisite turnover volume when it is launched in June 2001.

The initial phase of the project will see Bidvest adapt existing divisions into an e-commerce trading market place to test it live before roll-out.

Bidvest is confident its fleet, which it says is one of the biggest privately owned in the country, will be able to easily meet delivery quotas.

The e-marketplace will be run on a Microsoft platform, with Aqua Online responsible for back-office integration, Web site design and customisation.

Log-Tek will be responsible for cataloguing services and I-Fusion will take care of the connectivity roll-out.

Bidvest says that in line with international trends, it aims to reduce supply chain costs and inventory sizes through mymarket.com`s supply chain management .

The company says mymarket.com`s slogan will be "Mind your own business".
