Big data, BPM collaborate

By Nadine Arendse
Johannesburg, 03 Apr 2012

Unlike any other IT catchphrase, big is here to stay because it's being led and sponsored by business thought leaders.

This is according to Bill Hoggarth, director at Dataways, who says it's not the IT industry stating why big data is important - it's the business schools, economists and thought-leading management consultants.

The fact that big data is the catchphrase in the IT industry does not matter - what matters is that big data is the catchphrase in business circles, he says.

Hoggarth is a speaker at the ITWeb BPM Summit, which takes place on 17 and 18 April, with a post-event workshop to be hosted by international speaker and author, Steve Towers. Workshop attendees will receive certification as certified process practitioners (CPP).

ITWeb's BPM Summit will take place on 17 and 18 April. For more information and to reserve your seat, click here.

In his talk, Hoggarth will explore what thought leaders are saying and doing about big data. He will also consider the fuss around big data, and relate this back to business process management (BPM), using established methodologies and frameworks to emphasise the areas of BPM that are most impacted by big data.

“It's not so much how BPM helps with addressing big data, but rather how big data helps to address BPM challenges,” he says.
