Pretoria-based -Mint, has published its Bigmail e-mail on its Web site, ready for download by the international market.

Bigmail is designed to securely send large e-mail attachments while avoiding possible size restrictions on mail servers, the company says.

Bigmail integrates with Microsoft Outlook to provide a freeware version, mostly for private use, and a subscription package, for corporate or commercial use, says Craig Loffell, a developer at the company.

Unfortunately, the software is not compatible with Outlook Express, since it doesn`t work on an object model, says Loffell. Recipients of encrypted mail via an alternate e-mail interface will have to use a hyperlink, provided by the sender, which will allow the recipient to decrypt and download the file through a Web interface, he says.

Bigmail provides users with an HTTP server, with 20MB for freeware users and 100MB available for subscription users. An FTP server is also available, he says, where a corporation may use their own FTP site to store and retrieve sensitive documents.

The benefit of Bigmail is it is an affordable option with file transfer, encryption and compression services available through its remote server, says Loffell.
