Local distributor Biodata IT has announced that PC Pro, a leading British IT magazine, has awarded its two top accolades: "Labs Winner" and "A List" to Kaspersky Internet Security 7.0.
The awards are based on the results of a comparative analysis of 12 integrated security solutions designed to protect personal computers from malicious programs, hacker attacks and spam.
In addition to Kaspersky Internet Security 7.0, solutions developed by Symantec, McAfee, Trend Micro, Panda, ESET and Agnitum were included in the analysis.
According to the authors of the review, in the malware test: "Kaspersky Internet Security achieved a superb 98% detection rate." PC Pro experts also emphasised that the product achieved this result without a single false positive. That is, no legitimate programs were identified as malicious by the anti-virus module.
Kaspersky Internet Security 7.0's integrated firewall also passed testing with flying colours. According to the magazine's experts, it was cited as "among the most intelligent" they had seen.
Unlike most other test labs, PC Pro experts set up their test to imitate standard actions performed by users in real life situations. Specifically, to test the effectiveness of various anti-virus programs, PC Pro experts do not simply run an on-demand scan, but download e-mails with infected attachments and imitate downloading infected files from the Internet using specially developed scripts.
Says Chris Runte, from local Kaspersky distributor Biodata IT: "Tests like these carry a lot more weight than many of the benchmarking tests out there. Such tests approximate everyday conditions better than other types of testing." As an example, the analysis conducted by PC Pro demonstrated that many products are much better able to detect malicious programs by scanning files on demand than they are at blocking malicious programs in real-life conditions.
The overall score achieved by each solution tested was based not only on the effectiveness of the protection provided by the product, but also on its ease of use and its value-for-money rating.
In previous testing conducted in July 2007, PC Pro experts awarded the magazine's top "Labs Winner" and "A List" awards to another Kaspersky Lab product, Kaspersky Anti-Virus 7.0, concluding that "Kaspersky towers over the competition."
