Biophotonic light eases oral cancer detection

The ViziLite Plus Oral Lesion Identification and Marking System, which eases early detection of oral abnormalities that could lead to cancer, is available to dentists in the US, reports Genetic Engineering News.

The American Cancer Society recently announced that despite the first overall reduction in cancer deaths ever recorded, oral cancer incidence and related deaths are increasing.

ViziLite Plus combines the oral screening technology of ViziLite, an advanced biophotonic light technology, with TBlue630, a marking system using Zila Tolonium Chloride, the only patented pharmaceutical-grade form of toluidine blue used in marking lesions identified during a ViziLite examination.

MS focuses on mobile

The healthcare industry is benefiting from mobile computing, with MS`s mobile software positively impacting patients` lives, worker efficiency and the balance sheets of healthcare organisations, reports Eastside Business.

Since the launch of Microsoft`s mobile software for Tablet PCs in 2004, the number of Microsoft creating mobile computing solutions for the healthcare industry, has grown to more than 60, the article says.

Relying on the strengths and scalability of Microsoft Windows XP Tablet PC Edition, SQL Server, .NET Web Services, Office XP Professional and other Microsoft technologies, these businesses have implemented Tablet PC and mobile solutions on a consistent platform across a broad cross-section of healthcare organisations, including thousands of hospitals, clinics, home health groups, visiting nurse services and others.

UK`s modernised healthcare system presents opportunities

The North of England Inward Investment Agency (NEIIA), the organisation responsible for promoting direct business investment from North America, announced that it is working with a variety of US-based healthcare technology companies to help them better understand how to capitalise on opportunities presented by the recent modernisation of the UK`s National Health Service (NHS), according to a agency statement.

Considered the largest civilian IT modernisation program in the world, the national programme for IT will connect 300 000 healthcare workers with 300 hospitals. It constitutes the biggest change to England`s healthcare system since the NHS was created in 1948, and is intended to modernise services and improve experiences and outcomes for patients through the use of technology and organisational structure.
