The new BlackBerry OS smartphone, which has had the industry abuzz with talk, is set to reach SA's shores within the next two weeks.

While SA's operators remain tight-lipped as to details of the new BlackBerry flagship Z10 smartphone in-store details, ahead of its South African launch, all indications are that the phones will hit local shelves within the next two weeks.

Telkom's mobile arm, 8ta, confirmed over three weeks ago that it would offer BlackBerry 10 deals and devices by 1 March, and a pre-order form is available online.

As for SA's top three operators - even if they are unable to divulge exact details right now - they are also clearly gearing up, with pre-orders for the Z10 open via Dion Wired and Cellucity for Vodacom; and for MTN and Cell C via the companies' respective Web sites.

Speculation is that Vodacom will be the first, by a marginal period, to stock the new BlackBerry devices, but the operator says further details as to exact dates and pricing will be released before the end of the week. The operator also sent out a teaser advertisement last week its existing customers that the devices are "coming soon".

In terms of pricing, Incredible Connection's offer may be a gauge for off-contract purchases, with the electronics giant advertising the BlackBerry Z10 for R6 999.95. The store confirms a launch date of 1 March.
