BlackBerry does not come with the ability to send and receive business cards via SMS directly from the contacts tab, unlike other smartphones.

To bridge this gap, SA-based mobile software solution company, IMPI has developed a small application called bCard, which can be downloaded to BlackBerry for improved performance in this regard.

With this application, one can load their own contact details and when someone asks for a business card, they can just send them from their phone, the company says.

It goes directly into their contact details, thus the chances of them misplacing your information are zero, IMPI adds.

According to the director of IMPI, Mauritz Robertson: “Most phones allow you to send and receive contact details directly from the contacts tab on the phone. The IMPI business card application came to life when one of the IMPI guys wanted to send contact details to someone from his BlackBerry Storm.” He found out that it was not possible.

He then wrote an application for his BlackBerry to achieve this rather than just copying the details one-by-one and pasting it into an e-mail. “That is how the application was developed,” Robertson says.

He reckons the highlight of the application is that one can send and receive business cards from all types off handsets and across all carrier networks.
