Mobile operator Vodacom was plagued by technical network issues this morning, which resulted in 2G and 3G outages in Sandton, Rosebank and Midrand, as well disruptions in BlackBerry services in SA, Egypt, Malta and Kenya.
BlackBerry services, however, remain down and the operator has yet to release any details regarding the nature of the problem. Vodacom would also not say by when it expects the service to be restored.
The operator was unable to confirm how many subscribers have been affected by the outage.
Disgruntled customers complain they have received no communication about the problem and have taken to customer complaint Web site HelloPeter.com to voice their concerns.
“Vodacom has a problem on their data services AGAIN without having the decency to notify their clients. There is NO problem when sending out promotional jargon to try and gain revenue but something as simple as customer feedback goes unnoticed,” posted a disgruntled customer.
Vodacom says it has used Twitter to communicate the problem and is focused on restoring the service as soon as possible.
