BlackBerry has sent out invitations to an event on Wednesday, sparking speculation that the company is set to announce its next flagship device running its 10 OS - the BlackBerry Z30.

According to Berry Review, three countries are included in the mystery event - Malaysia, India and France.

While there are a number of things BlackBerry has been working on since BlackBerry Live in May - including BlackBerry Messaging (BBM) Channels and the opening up of BBM, already in progress - speculation is rife that the new smartphone, pictured on BlackBerry forum Crackberry last week, will officially be unveiled at the international event.

The invitation does not mention any products, however, leaving observers without any concrete idea. Other speculation is that BlackBerry is going to announce the launch of BBM for other platforms.

Know Your Mobile writes that the previously leaked BlackBerry Z30 is believed to be in a late testing stage and "some believe this launch event may signal its arrival".

The tech info site goes on to say the short notice given with the invitations, sent out last week, was "a bit weird" and suggests that perhaps BlackBerry has "suddenly either found a buyer, or is about to announce a recently penned major partnership, as it mentioned it might when it assembled a special committee to investigate 'strategic alternatives' (including a possible sale) last month".

Lastly, Know Your Mobile notes another possibility is that BlackBerry's licensing concept may be on the cards for the mid-week event. "CEO Thorsten Heins previously [said] the company would consider licensing BlackBerry 10 [to third parties] as Google does with Android."

It is not clear if the event is due to be hosted in other countries as well.
