Bloemfontein provides fertile base for UPS company's growth

Johannesburg, 03 Apr 2003

Compound annual growth of 70% for the Orange Free State branch of national uninterruptible power supply (UPS) specialist Square One Power Solutions underlines the value of Bloemfontein as a base from which to serve the vast central area of the country.

Over the past year the branch has supplied UPS solutions to major chains Pick 'n Pay, Clicks and Diskom, the Airports Company (for radar stations), the University of the Orange Free State (for registration computers), the Telkom main exchange in Bloemfontein through the Telecomms Facility Management Centre (TFMC), a SA Weather Services radar site, and to the Systems Integrated Technology Agency (SITA) which handles all government IT requirements in the province.

From Bloemfontein the branch also provides UPS solutions and services to industries and organisations scattered as far afield as the Northern Cape and Lesotho. Customers include the Lesotho Department of in support of rural communications centres throughout the mountain kingdom, the Lesotho Highlands Development Authority to support computerised monitoring of dam storage systems, Lesotho Telecoms, the National Training and Development College in Maseru, and in the Northern Cape, Black Rock Mine near Postmasburg and Carsten Boerdery, SA's largest exporter of table grapes, at Upington.

"We provide a turnkey one-stop protection service covering power supplies, lightning and surge protection, mains stabilisation and mains failure protection through UPS products. Our solutions protect data and telecommunications equipment across the board from PCs to PABXes, routers, hubs, servers and mainframe computers," says Square One's OFS regional manager Luther Norval.

"While the area to cover is huge, it offers many opportunities. For example, from the platform established by the UPS business we have extended our services to include other product ranges and solutions offered by our parent company, the JSE-listed Square One Solutions group. We now distribute and service Xerox and Epson printers and their associated consumables as well as the Coditech product range of coding and marking systems."

Bloemfontein is a key part of the Square One Solutions Group's national sales support and service footprint. To ensure high service levels over such a large area, a network of preferred dealers has been established in key towns throughout the region.
