Blown fibre - a first for the Seychelles

Johannesburg, 10 Nov 2004

Fregate Island Private has to be one of the most unspoiled places on earth. In the middle of the Indian Ocean, it`s one of the islands in the archipelago of 115 that make up the Republic of Seychelles.

Datacentrix designed the network and Interconnect in Centurion was awarded the contract to install a new network cabling infrastructure in the only holiday resort on Fregate Island. The cabling infrastructure enables services to be provided to the villas in the resort, the main admin block, the restaurant, the stores and several other buildings. The network design called for 7 km of blown fibre and over 4 km of Category 5E cable to be installed.

After the Interconnect project team returned to South Africa, at the beginning of October, the financial manager of the resort reported that "The LAN on the island is up and running very smoothly."
