BMC acquires OpenNetwork

Johannesburg, 29 Mar 2005

Enterprise management solutions provider BMC has acquired Web access management provider OpenNetwork.

Under the terms of the agreement, BMC will acquire 100% of OpenNetwork`s for $18 million in cash. About 40 OpenNetwork employees will join BMC`s Management Business Unit.

"The acquisition is part of BMC`s identity management growth strategy and adds Web access management capabilities to the product suite," says Arjen Wiersma, BMC SA country manager.

Over the past year, BMC has followed a strategy to expand the company`s identity management product suite to enhance its business service management (BSM) offerings aimed at enabling customers to manage IT from a business perspective.

Wiersma says the move is in response to increasing customer demands for Web-enabled applications as part of a comprehensive identity management solution. "Web access management strengthens and extends the benefits of BSM beyond the boundaries of an organisation to include customers and partners.

"OpenNetwork also brings federated identity management capabilities to BMC Software, which enables secure and highly efficient e-commerce," he adds.
