BMC Software has launched a software change and configuration management tool, which will be integrated into BMC`s discovery suite of products.
Discovery software identifies the software and hardware existing on a company`s network.
The new discovery product, Marimba, extends the capabilities to BMC`s business service management strategy in three areas: change and configuration management, security management and infrastructure management, says Blair Kantolinna, BMC Europe, Middle East and Africa business manager.
Kantolinna is in SA to assist BMC with the launch of Marimba.
"In terms of IT assets discovery, it is important to the inventory; and, as IT infrastructure is so dynamic, you have to capture that change and log it in the inventory," Kantolinna says, adding that the capturing of this information is done on three levels - asset discovery, configuration discovery and topology discovery.
Marimba, he explains, fits into the configuration discovery level, and the integration of Marimba products with existing BMC solutions has already begun, with Marimba`s policy-based configuration capabilities and Remedy Asset Management and Remedy Change Management already integrated.
Other Marimba technologies will be leveraged through future integrations with BMC solutions, including Patrol infrastructure and application management solutions, BMC Service Impact Manager and the Control-SA identity management solution.
Kantolinna points out that configuration discovery places an agent on IT assets that captures changes and sends the information to a central repository, in addition to enabling patch management, application management, software usage, licence harvesting and operating system migration.
