Independent systems software vendor, BMC Technologies, released its second generation BMC Atrium configuration management database (CMDB) and automated discovery solution last week.
The solution, dubbed "Business in a Box", is intended to expand BMC Technologies` business service management (BSM) range, and is a move for the company from product to solutions vendor, says Arjen Wiersma, country manager of BMC.
The CMDB allows customers using BSM to manage their IT from a business perspective, by using automated discovery solutions to detect any technological or service glitches, from a central hub, says Wiersma.
Business in a Box consists of 60 BSM products, 40 of which are migrations and updates for existing BSM products, and 20 are new BSM products.
Business in a Box is aimed mainly at corporate enterprises, Wiersma says, although the solution may be tailored to smaller companies.
The various products included in Business in a Box may be used as added-value products, rather than a replacement for existing BSM solutions..
Business in a Box allows a business to check how many licensed BSM products it owns, how many were bought and how many are active, Wiersma says, allowing businesses to optimise IT product use.
