BMC Software, Inc, the leading provider of enterprise management, has announced that it will deliver the first product and Knowledge Module (KM) under its Application-Centric Network Management initiative to Texas Instruments in France. BMC is represented locally by MGX.
PATROL Visualis 1.1 and the PATROL Network Knowledge Module integrate network performance and visualisation capabilities with BMC Software`s enterprise management solutions, allowing customers to manage their enterprise network assets in a way that optimises application availability and performance.
Reg Swart, General Manager of MGX`s BMC Software division, said: "By focusing on the application perspective when managing the network, customers can directly relate network performance and resources to the business process."
Application-Centric Network Management is BMC Software`s new initiative that comes as a result of the company`s recent acquisition of Perform SA, a France-based network optimisation software developer that provided two network management flagship products - DashBoard and Visualis^O. Application-Centric Network Management extends BMC Software`s market-leading systems and application management solutions to the network, enabling customers to better understand network connectivity and view the health of their entire enterprise, which increases their return on investment and value to their customers.
"With this initiative, customers will now, like never before, be able to display the information flow generated from the client to the servers as well as see the impact of this information flow on application performance," said Swart.
"BMC Software`s new network products will provide Texas Instruments with real added value in network and application management," said Patrice Savini, network manager at Texas Instruments France. "Texas Instruments France has been using Perform`s DashBoard product for three years and recently acquired its Visualis technology to improve network performance and monitoring capabilities. We are confident that adding Perform`s leading-edge network management tools to BMC Software`s existing management solutions will be a win-win for TI. We will now have management solutions that extend across both infrastructure and applications, making it easier to support our customers more effectively."
PATROL Visualis 1.1 sets new standard for network visibility
PATROL Visualis 1.1 provides IT with the ability to discover and view a patent-pending topological map of their infrastructure, which includes the application and network resources and how they are interconnected. With the integration of PATROL and Visualis, customers can, over time, observe and replay network traffic flows across the infrastructure between application components. From a single view within Visualis, a user will be able to view network traffic between workstations and servers throughout the network. Users then will be able to visualise just how an application affects the network and how the network affects the application.
With the integration of PATROL capabilities into Visualis, PATROL Visualis 1.1 now will be able to gather key applications knowledge via auto-discovered PATROL Agents. Using this information, customers can now build a single global view of the dynamics of their entire enterprise system. Customers will benefit from this integration as they now can understand how application services are affected on a consumer usage basis.
"This integration will provide our customers with a powerful enterprise-wide management solution giving customers a view of all of the data and applications that keep their companies in business," said Swart. "The integration of Perform`s technology with BMC`s existing portfolio will produce network-aware application management tools that will allow businesses to keep their applications running and ultimately, and most importantly, ensure that their customers` expectations are met."
PATROL Network KM enables end-to-end service level management
The PATROL Network KM takes select network performance metrics from DashBoard and stores the information directly within the PATROL infrastructure. The PATROL Network KM allows the PATROL Console, PATROL for Service Level Management, additional PATROL applications and PATROL partner applications to obtain network performance data that DashBoard collects by directly accessing the native PATROL data-store. This PATROL Knowledge Module provides customers the ability to see combined network, systems and application performance data from PATROL applications within the same view as well as in reports and graphs.
Future integration roadmap
BMC Software`s first priority is to integrate the Perform and PATROL products to deliver maximum value to its combined customers. In the near future, product deliverables include: PATROL for IP Networks - Diagnose - The first diagnostic solution available from this integration will be PATROL for IP Networks - Diagnose, which will enable customers to diagnose service failures down to the physical layer of the network by leveraging the Perform Visualis product`s discovery capabilities. PATROL for IP Networks - Diagnose will extend the current capability of the PATROL for Diagnostic Management solutions by giving customers the ability to diagnose if and where a network failure has caused an application failure. The product will be released in June.
DashBoard Integration with PATROL Enterprise Manager - This solution will forward alerts from DashBoard to PATROL Enterprise Manager. The integration will allow customers to use PATROL Enterprise Manager`s tools to correlate network congestion and bottleneck issues within the enterprise. This solution will be available within the next 30 days.
PATROL Service Reporting Integration - Incorporating benefits from the next release of PATROL Service Reporting, this integrated solution will provide the ability to publish DashBoard and Visualis information in the form of value-added reports.
Integration with PATROL for Service Level Management - By passing the end-time application response metrics from PATROL for Service Level Management to the diagnostic modelling capabilities within DashBoard, correlation between application response degradation and network congestion can be automated to pinpoint service problems to network failures or performance issues.
