BMC targets problem resolution

Prague, 23 May 2007

At its UserWorld event in Prague this week, BMC Software released three products aimed at accelerating problem resolution and reducing costs through detailed problem isolation, diagnosis, routing and resolution.

The products are BMC Transaction Management Root Cause Analysis, BMC Performance Assurance/Performance Exception Detector, CMCB Support: BMC Performance Manager and Performance Assurance.

Bob Beauchamp, CEO of BMC Software, says these products help IT operations and application support staff isolate problems in distributed applications running in J2EE, Microsoft, .NET or legacy Windows environments.

"By rapidly finding out the root cause of the problem, IT staff can ensure the problem is routed to the appropriate domain expert for resolution. Multiple IT groups are no longer needed to diagnose the problem; the problem is solved quickly and service promptly restored."

Features of the new software include aggregated statistics that presents a bird's-eye view of application performance and availability, and transaction analysis that sorts transactions by time or tier, enabling users to drill down into individual transactions for deeper analysis.

Beauchamp says the software also enables transaction breakdown, recording detailed performance for the execution of SQL queries. "The transaction drill-down feature pinpoints the specific component and method that caused the application slow down."

Once detected, an is routed through the company's Event Management product, allowing for initial analysis, and enabling IT staff to determine the problem's severity, as well as the application in which it has occurred.

The products also allow cross-platform support.

"BSM [business service management] is the most effective approach for managing IT from the business perspective," adds Beauchamp. "It helps companies to do more of what supports the business, and less of what doesn't. It lowers costs and of disruption and allows businesses to benefit from an IT infrastructure designed to support growth and flexibility."
