BMC Software, the provider of business systems management solutions, has announced a drive into the South African market where it is ready to appoint a number of data centre hosting partners for its recently announced SiteAngel website quality monitoring service.
BMC, represented locally by Master Distributor CCH Enterprise Solutions, has identified and qualified a number of leading prospects, among them Midrand-based CCH Hosted Services, and will soon be announcing its first appointments, says Simon North-Keeling, SiteAngel EMEA Strategic Manager.
"We are setting up SiteAngel data centre partners throughout the world," says North-Keeling. "We`ve covered the US and EMEA regions and are about to launch in Asia-Pacific. South Africa is one of our key territories, based on the market size, our analysis of its potential, and current penetration of the market."
SiteAngel is a Web-based service that enables companies to simulate and test the customer experience at their websites. The service can be accessed from any location via the Internet and is platform- and browser-independent. This combination of features makes it ideally suited to the ASP (application service provision) model of computing, and signifies BMC`s expansion from its traditional sales model where it provides software licences to large corporate clients. SiteAngel is integrated with BMC`s Patrol systems management solution.
"Because it is made available as an ASP subscription service, the cost of SiteAngel drops dramatically and it is made affordable to a wide range of companies," says North-Keeling, "so in effect any company with a requirement for measurement of its website can afford it. There is no software to install and maintain and once the service has been activated it begins monitoring immediately."
SiteAngel monitors websites through a number of "angels" which are activated to track various quality-of-service metrics such as availability, performance and recovery times and accuracy of content. The number and roles of these angels vary depending on each website`s specific requirements; they are "intelligent" and can be taught what to look out for.
"SiteAngel is actually monitoring your website from the outside, providing an external perspective of how your e-business is performing. Importantly, it goes all the way through to your business`s back-end, advising how the overall system is performing and making appropriate recommendations to drive recovery."
