BMC unveils ID management suite

Johannesburg, 04 Nov 2005

BMC Software has introduced its management suite, which is a final component in the company`s Business Service Management (BSM) solution, providing organisations with a transparent view of their environments.

The identity management suite enables identity-aware BSM to demonstrate business value in identity investments, says Tim Dunn, BMC`s senior sales director for the identity management business unit for Europe, Middle East and Africa.

It also delivers improved visibility into an organisation`s IT infrastructure and provides deeper levels of integration and interoperability, Dunn adds.

The BMC Identity Management Suite introduces three new identity management products - BMC Identity Discovery, BMC Manager and BMC Federated Identity Manager, he notes.

Expanded view

The BMC Identity Discovery product, Dunn explains, populates the configuration management database (CMDB) with identity for better visibility into the IT enterprise, expanding the view of the IT infrastructure to include people, hardware, software and applications.

The product uses identity information for more effective business process management, says Dunn. It strengthens services and initiatives around asset and discovery management, change and configuration management, impact and event handling, and service management.

The BMC Identity Compliance Manager, says Dunn, provides a central identity management auditing solution, allowing automatic data repository for all identities and security policies, and a graphical dashboard tracks, manages and archives all policy exceptions.

The BMC Federated Identity Manager provides a secure route of communication across entities expanding their reach of business, he states. He explains that this application allows trusted parties to move through different domains of resources and gives key stakeholders the right level of access to appropriate business applications.

Dunn claims that the Federated Identity Manager increases productivity, while addressing security and privacy concerns over authorisation, access and risk management.
