SpeechWorks International, a developer of speech technologies and services, has announced that The Boeing Company has chosen its Speechify text-to-speech (TTS) engine to support a portion of the on-board alert warning system in the next-generation AH-64D Apache Longbow multi-role combat helicopters.
The AH-64D Apache Longbow, in production by Boeing in Mesa, Arizona, is the newest version of the combat-proven AH-64A Apache and a candidate to fulfil the attack helicopter and reconnaissance requirements of numerous armed forces worldwide.
"Speechify will play a vital role in Boeing`s voice warning system for the Apache Longbow," says Steve Chambers, chief marketing officer at SpeechWorks. "Speechify was chosen for a mission-critical application based on its high-quality, human-sounding text-to-speech output."
Speechify customers in North America include America Online, Bell Canada, Microsoft, National Weather Service and Yahoo!.
SpeechWorks is represented locally by Intelleca Voice & Mobile, a provider of advanced speech recognition telephony solutions. "Speechify has achieved a new standard in text-to-speech solutions by modelling voice quality and the overall rhythm and intonation of the speaker," says Mike Renzon, MD of Intelleca Voice & Mobile. "Speechify is increasingly being used to deploy speech applications that deliver dynamic content and personalised information in a natural-sounding way and in so doing eliminates the time and expense of audio studio recordings."
