Boku aids Telefonica with in-app payment
Telefonica has rolled out an in-app payment service that charges downloads to users' phone bills as part of its developer programme BlueVia, says New Media Age.
The mobile operator group has paired with mobile payments specialist Boku to provide the service, which lets users pay for downloads or services from within an app, for its platform's bank-grade security, according to the telco.
Telefonica unveiled the in-app billing service as a means of attracting new application developers to its platform and developer programme, which it hopes can rival third-party stores.
According to Gigaom, the deal comes a week after Boku signed partnerships with French mobile carriers SFR and Bouygues Telecom, which means the company now effectively covers all French mobile users through its existing deal with Orange.
