Borland joins Web Services Interoperability Organisation, wins new customers

Johannesburg, 28 Mar 2002

Borland Software Corporation today announced industry-leading Web services customers, including InSystems, Collier`s International, and AvestaPolarit.

The company also announced it has joined the Web Services Interoperability (WS-I) Organisation. Borland`s involvement in the WS-I initiative emphasises the company`s continued commitment to industry standards and Web Services interoperability across diverse and competing platforms through Borland development and deployment solutions.

Borland`s standards-compliant development and deployment solutions, featuring Borland JBuilder, C++Builder, Delphi, Kylix, and Borland Enterprise Server, are helping customers implement progressive Web services applications and integration across diverse platforms and industries to achieve greater interoperability, faster time to market, and improved operational efficiencies.

While many continue to talk about the promise of Web services, Borland is delivering solutions and working with customers today to provide Web services solutions that create operational efficiencies among hundreds of information technologies, business processes, partners and customers," said Manoli Rodokanakis, Country Manager for Borland Southern Africa. "Our entrance into the WS-I builds on Borland`s focus to provide seamless application interoperability between Web services on Java, .Net, Windows and Linux. Participating in WS-I continues our leadership and involvement in development and deployment standards across the technology industry."

InSystems (http://www.insystems.com/), a provider of e-business solutions for more than 350 insurance customers, including the majority of the top 100 insurance groups in North America, is using JBuilder 6 to develop eXtended Relationship Management (XRM) applications for its insurance industry customers. The solutions enable insurance organisations to provide branded Web self-service to manage multi-tiered relationships, improving customer retention while reducing administration costs.

"Borland`s development environment for Web Services enabled savings of more than $1 million in the first implementation of our insurance industry project," said Doug Hadden, group product manager at InSystems. "With JBuilder`s Web Services capabilities, we built a reusable framework and an application, integrating legacy systems, giving InSystems customers superior customer service capabilities. We developed the application in a quarter of the expected time. InSystems continues to save through Web services reusability."

Additional customers using Borland`s technology to build Web services include:

* Colliers International (http://www.colliersparrish.com/) is one of the largest commercial real estate firms in the world, with more than 255 offices in 51 countries. Working with Borland partner, Kazoo Software, Inc, Colliers is using Delphi 6 and Kylix 2 to create cross-platform Web services applications that connect real estate agents with information about properties, prices and clients from databases and other sources across the organisation. A case study detailing how Collier`s Web Services cross-platform solution was developed by Kazoo and deployed on both Windows and Linux platforms can be viewed at http://www.borland.com/about/cases/.

* AvestaPolarit (http://www.avestapolarit.com/) is one of the world`s largest stainless steel companies and the first European firm to go live with Borland`s Web services solution. AvestaPolarit is using Delphi 6 and Borland Enterprise Server to develop and deploy a Web services application that will give all business units, at every stage of the manufacturing process, instant access to the vital production data needed to effectively track and act upon quality-related issues. This solution will allow Avesta to streamline the flow and management of critical data about the production process and maintain a competitive-edge.
