Borland technology used by Ericsson to build carrier service provisioning solution

Johannesburg, 04 Dec 2001

Borland Software Corporation has announced that Ericsson has selected Borland AppServer to develop its integrated Internet Protocol (IP) virtual private network (VPN) and quality of service (QoS) solution for mobile and fixed operators.

Using Borland AppServer technology, Ericsson has developed Policy Deployment Manager (PDM), a multi-vendor manageable, scalable and highly available IP service provisioning tool. PDM includes a high level of data abstraction, which enables network service configuration at the customer interface.

The goal of PDM is to simplify the service activation process by enabling flow-through provisioning. Borland products at the foundation, Ericsson development of PDM and the latest standards, such as XML and CORBA, combine to make it a highly robust solution.

Throughout the development of PDM, Ericsson worked closely with Borland`s Professional Services Organisation, which provided superior technology and consulting services to accelerate development efforts.

Borland`s fast uptake on implementing new APIs (Application Programme Interfaces) and strong commitment to industry standards offered Ericsson a powerful framework for developing the solution for IP networks.

"Ericsson is operating at the forefront of the industry, and therefore requires reliable and scalable, open solutions to develop leading-edge systems for its customers," commented Goran Kallmark, area manager for Borland Nordic. "With our industry standards-based technology and our professional services offering, Borland delivers a comprehensive solution for enterprises such as Ericsson."
