The Business Process Management Group (BPMG), the world`s largest business process management (BPM) community, has published a report revealing that BPM as a management practice achieved critical mass and broader acceptance during 2004.
Its findings are based on research conducted during March 2005, which involved the BPMG`s more than 11 000 members. The report, titled `BPM - Building on Experience`, establishes the current state of the BPM market with a look at how enterprises view BPM professionalism and certification, as well as the varying roles that BPM supports.
Rainer Gaier, managing director of local process, content and integration specialist, Ovations, commented on the report findings: "The ongoing focus on and increased awareness of business process improvement bears testimony to its importance within today`s business environment. We believe that BPM will form the foundation of future business success in terms of growth and sustainability."
The report also found that more than 80% of the world`s leading organisations are actively engaged in BPM programmes, of which many are taking place on a global scale. The emergence of a new C-level role within many organisations, the chief business process officer, bears testimony to the growing importance of BPM on corporate agendas.
"The results of Gartner`s Executive Programmes survey earlier this year ranked business process improvement as the number one business priority for 2005. In SA, we are seeing more organisations embracing the concept of a process enterprise by placing BPM at the top of their corporate agendas, due to the fact that the return on investment in these projects is so tangible," concludes Gaier.
