Successful process management efforts require a strong emphasis on culture, leadership and change management.
So says Syed Ahmed Mohiuddin, founder and CEO of BITS consultancy services.
He adds that business process management (BPM) is a process management discipline and hence also requires a clear understanding of the BPM program's link to strategy, culture and new processes.
Best practices to sustain a culture of BPM in an organisation include the need for an introduction to a sustainable performance environment and a strong focus on people, Mohiuddin says.
There also needs to be continuous support from the CEO and other executives, as well as constant engagement with the people who most influence decisions within the organisation, he says.

Another important factor in sustaining a culture of BPM in an organisation is to establish a core expert group (CoE), he says. The CoE will assist in driving aspects of operational excellence, product leadership and customer intimacy.
Mohiuddin is a speaker at the ITWeb BPM Summit, which takes place on 17 and 18 April, with a post-event workshop hosted by international BPM expert Steve Towers on 19 April.
