Brand new training premises as FTI expands

By Faculty Training Institute
Johannesburg, 26 Nov 2010

National training provider, Faculty Training Institute (FTI), has acquired brand new offices in Johannesburg to accommodate its rapidly expanding business.

FTI first started its Johannesburg operation in 2003 and has since experienced exponential year-on-year growth of its client base. The relocation also forms part of a strategic move to house two new divisions that require larger premises for FTI.

FTI is a leading training provider for Business Analysis, enterprise architecture, systems analysis, Testing and Project Management in South Africa. With the launch of two new divisions, Professional Services and Academy of Thinking, FTI is positioned to diversify into the dual provider roles of consulting and training specialists.

“The move positions FTI for strategic growth for the next three years as FTI branches not only into new territories, but continues to meet increasing demand for vocational short courses and FTI's flagship Business Analysis certificate and diploma courses,” says Steve Erlank, MD of FTI.

FTI's Professional Services Division offers value-added services that will help organisations develop a professional community of practice and competency around key knowledge roles like business or systems analysis, project management, testing and enterprise (business) architecture. It also offers a coaching and mentoring service as well as an organisational maturity assessment and capacity development services.

The Academy of Thinking is dedicated to developing and providing a range of focused skills courses that will help individuals enhance their cognitive abilities. “The Academy of Thinking was therefore a natural extension of the FTI brand, which trains business and systems analysts, project managers, test analysts and process management professionals,” says Erlank. “We recognised within FTI that insufficient attention was being paid to the underlying thinking and communication skills that are required by all knowledge professionals in the knowledge age.”

FTI's new training facility is located at the Kirstenhof Office Park, on Witkoppen Road, Paulshof and boasts approximately 855 square metres of training space.

Steve Erlank, MD of FTI and President of the SA Chapter of IIBA and Deputy Director of its Europe and Africa region, will present an evening seminar entitled: “The Strategic Value of the Business Analysis Profession in South Africa”. This International Institute of Business Analysis event will be held at Faculty Training Institute, Johannesburg, on 25 November, 2010 from 17:30 until 19:30. Attendees will learn more about the internal consultancy role of the business analyst, which has the responsibility for investigating business systems, identifying options for improving business systems and bridging the needs of the business with the use of IT.

Faculty Training Institute

Faculty Training Institute (FTI) is a private training company that specialises in offering world-class career-oriented training courses for professional knowledge workers, mainly in the corporate world. Focusing on mid-career rather than entry-level training, FTI specialises in project management, business analysis, systems analysis, technical writing, IT management, enterprise architecture, and technical writing training. It offers a variety of training options, including public or in-house, part-time or full-time courses.

FTI was founded in 1989 by five experienced lecturers from the Department of Information Systems at the University of Cape Town, who perceived a gap between the technical or entry level training offered by most private training companies, and the longer degree programmes offered by tertiary institutions. During the past 20 years, FTI has expanded its successful product offerings from the initial two diploma courses into growing range of diplomas and short courses that serve the career needs of corporate South Africa.

In October 2006 FTI was awarded Charter Endorsed Education Provider (EEP) status with the International Institute for Business Analysis (IIBA(R)). It is one of a handful of training organisations worldwide who have achieved this status. FTI has received full accreditation from ISETT SETA.
