Breaking the trade-in mould: Discounts for non-3Com users

Johannesburg, 13 Nov 2002

South African companies can now benefit from trade-up discounts when they install the latest 3Com networking equipment even if they do not currently operate 3Com networks.

In launching its new Trade-Up programme this week, 3Com SA has also made it easier for existing 3Com network users to upgrade to new equipment by introducing a more flexible trade-up programme.

"Not only have we opened up 3Com affordability to users of all types of equipment, but we`ve also removed constraints that used to limit the options of existing 3Com users," says Debbie Hunter, marketing manager at 3Com South Africa.

"For example, existing users can now trade-up between product groups - such as managed to unmanaged hubs, or chassis products for new stackable items and vice versa," she explains.

Previously, users could only trade-up like-for-like products. "We`re expecting to increase our market penetration significantly by replacing opposition products with our own as well as updating existing 3Com networks," she notes.

In addition to making new equipment acquisitions more affordable, 3Com SA recently announced a range of incentive programmes for its distributor and reseller partners.

3Com SA has also expanded the list of its products that quality for trade-up. Among those included in the programme are switches and hubs such as the new SuperStack 4400SE, and the SuperStack 4400 48 port series and the new Access Point 8000.

"This isn`t a typical industry ploy to try to move excess stock that is due to be superseded soon. We`ve included our latest offerings as well as our current best-selling switches in the programme," says Hunter.

3Com distributors and authorised resellers will be able to access an online tool to assist them to calculate the worth of networking products subject to trade-in - based on their type, age and brand.

Any discount offered is also dependent on the products they are being traded against.

"We`ve already had good positive feedback from end users and resellers alike, as 3Com is currently the only company prepared to give an up-front trade-in on competitive equipment," notes Hunter.

"It`s certainly a powerful statement with which to end this year and shows our determination to continue to dominate our markets in the year ahead," she adds.
