Lotus Development has pulled the wraps off a new application that will allow people using different languages to communicate across the Web.

"The product translates Web chat or communications in real-time, thereby opening up the as a truly global multilingual vehicle for the first time," says Lesego Tlhabanelo marketing communications manager at Lotus Development SA.

The new system was created by Lotus Ireland, which developed the product called Lotus Translation Services for Sametime (LTSS). "Sametime is a software-based, real-time collaboration product that allows users to access and communicate through text chat," explains Tlhabanelo.

Sametime provides instant , communication, and document sharing capabilities. Sametime brings the flexibility and efficiency of real-time communication to the business world.

"Awareness is the cornerstone of Sametime. With the selected awareness of co-workers, partners, or customers online, users can communicate in a variety of ways - from one-on-one instant messages to launching virtual meetings," he says.

In addition, Sametime provides live document and application sharing. Whether the goal is to present a new program to a field sales force or to offer live assistance to Web customers, Sametime delivers real-time collaboration today.

The new product will ship in September 2000 with the next release of Sametime.

"The development was Java-based," he reveals. The global target market includes enterprise businesses, government agencies and service providers or any organisation with a dispersed work force or need to work with remote colleagues or partners.
