Bridging central databases to your excel spreadsheets - over the Web

Johannesburg, 11 Feb 2003

Your organisation is one of the millions that use Microsoft Excel for delivery and analysis of data everyday. However, sometimes getting your existing data into spreadsheets for in-depth analysis can be a time-consuming and labour-intensive process. The ability to automatically populate spreadsheets and update central databases from within Microsoft Excel ensures that users have the easiest access to the most up-to-date information.

ICL, through Information Builders` WebFOCUS business intelligence offering, has released an Excel interface that will enable users to share and distribute data throughout the enterprise and instantly send data back to central databases via Excel spreadsheets. By bridging central databases to Microsoft Excel, users can easily:

* Simplify distribution of budgeting, production, and operational spreadsheets throughout the extended enterprise.

* Use the automated write-back capability to update operational data - in any database, on any platform - directly from the Excel spreadsheet by simply clicking "save".

* Utilise rich formatting options, including calculations, numeric and date formatting, and styling control from templates.

* Work from within their current WebFOCUS reporting environment with the ability to plug into any Web server environment - 100% Web standards-based.

* View and update data from a browser - easily.

* Leverage user-customised macros - from simple to sophisticated - with Excel spreadsheets.

* Operate from within a secure environment, where they can see and update only the data to which they have access.
