Furthering its commitment to wireless connectivity anytime, any place and on any device, Lotus Development has unveiled its turn-key WAP solution, the Domino Everyplace Quick Start which bridges corporate intranets with wireless devices.
Available within thirty (30) days from Lotus Professional Services, Domino Everyplace enables enterprises using Lotus Notes and Domino for their intranet to adapt and deliver content to hand-held, WAP-enabled devices with a mobile intranet solution that builds on existing corporate messaging and intranet applications.
"It will ensure that mobile workers have instant access to critical business information using the widest possible range of communication devices and wireless networks regardless of where they are," says Lesego Tlhabanelo, the newly appointed marketing communications manager at Lotus Development SA.
A breakthrough in enterprise-level, wireless access, Domino Everyplace changes how organisations deliver information to mobile users. Not only can traditional Lotus Notes users send and receive e-mail and manage their calendars from their WAP phones; now they are also able to participate in critical business processes and access information managed by Domino servers. Users can handle time-sensitive customer relationship tasks, calls, last-minute meeting notices and other urgent action items.
"Adding wireless support to the collaborative infrastructure allows an organisation to operate more effectively, move faster, and be more responsive to customers," says Tlhabanelo. "Employees using traditional Internet browser-equipped workstations can now participate in business processes while away from the office environment. Furthermore, the organisation can now reach employees or customers in instances where a mobile phone is the most practical interface due to the nature of their work, such as service technicians, delivery people or employees in temporary work agencies."
With industry-leading mobile servers, content from Domino databases is converted into Wireless Mark-up Language (WML) or Handheld Device Markup Language (HDML) to deliver a personally configured portal accessible by the WAP device. Domino Everyplace can map any Domino Intranet application to the WAP Portal and is based on Domino-supported open standards (including IMAP, SMTP and LDAP). Key features include:
Personally configured WAP Portal
Authentication to a Lotus Domino server
Customised menus for different user groups
WAP-based Domino e-mail, calendar, to-do lists and corporate directories
Short messaging service (SMS) and paging service support
