Brilliant Business Systems, a Softline company, today announced the successful implementation of its flagship product Brilliant Accounting at the University of Durban-Westville. Brilliant Accounting will be used as a training platform and has been incorporated into the curriculum of the Bachelors of Accounting degree at the university.
"By using Brilliant Accounting, students learn how to develop, manage and interpret business information as they prepare for tomorrow's career opportunities. Making them more marketable for future employment," says Shaun Pather, Information Systems & Technology (IS&T) lecturer at the University of Durban-Westville.
"At the University of Durban-Westville we aim to equip our students with the ability to obtain knowledge and experience that will add value to their employers from day one."
The Brilliant Accounting software was integrated into the University of Durban-Westville's undergraduate Information Systems and Technology course, a compulsory module for all accounting students. The module aims to expose students to financial management technology.
"We did not have a formal software package in place to offer students the opportunity to utilise textbook knowledge in a computerised accounting environment. We chose Brilliant Accounting, as it came highly recommended by our accounting faculty and would provided students with exposure to a product that is industry geared and used in the local marketplace," says Pather.
According to Lynne Krishna, Business Development Manager for Brilliant Business Systems, universities and educational institutes are seeing the value of using Brilliant Accounting as a training platform. "The Brilliant Accounting package includes an annual service subscription which guarantees no-extra-charge service through features like unlimited telephonic and Internet support, onsite installation, ongoing upgrades and a free training course. This is ideal for educational institutions, as they will not have to worry about the hassle of upgrading, additional service and support.
"With Brilliant Accounting the university can offer its students a useful learning tool, that exposes them to realistic simulations and practical applications at all the levels of information management, data-entry and financial reporting by using computer software and technology," adds Krishna.
Brilliant Accounting is locally developed and offers a fully integrated, subscription-based accounting and payroll software solution that is currently used by more than 7 000 accounting practitioners in the marketplace. "Brilliant Accounting is known as the software solution of choice for the small, medium-sized enterprise sector. Brilliant Accounting is now gearing up to enter the mid-tier corporate market with the release of Microsoft SQL-enabled version of Brilliant Accounting, in the third quarter of 2002. The university will also benefit from the SQL-enabled version of Brilliant Accounting, as it offers additional transaction speed and improved database integration," concludes Krishna.
