Brilliant Business Systems has appointed Siltek Distribution Dynamics (SDD) as the national distributor of Intuit`s popular SOHO and personal home finance accounting software packages, QuickBooks Pro V8 and Quicken.
A member of the JSE-listed Softline Limited Group, Brilliant holds the sole rights in South Africa for the two Intuit products.
"Our aim in this exercise is to extend the reach of QuickBooks and Quicken nationally and to make the products more easily available in many of the smaller centres. The best way for us to achieve this was to appoint a professional distributor with a strong, pervasive channel," said Bridget du Toit, retail and client services manager at Brilliant Business Systems.
Brilliant will continue to be responsible for retail sales of QuickBooks and Quicken with the major IT retail organisations, including Incredible Connection and Makro.
"We see many benefits extending to customers through the arrangement with SDD," added du Toit. "The SDD involvement means that dealers and the smaller retail outlets will be able to purchase stock on account and obtain bulk supplies on favourable terms whereas before stock had to be bought for cash."
Libe Monyane, SDD software product manager, said the deal had brought the world`s biggest-selling SOHO accounting and personal financial management packages into the SDD stable. "QuickBooks and Quicken both have very wide appeal and with them SDD now has a full house of SOHO and SME off-the-shelf accounting software products which we will be actively promoting nationwide."
Purchasers of QuickBooks Pro V8 are entitled to one year of free and unlimited telephone support from Brilliant as well as free Brilliant Payroll Lite payroll software, which is bundled with the package.
The agreement, concluded this week, also gives SDD the distribution rights for Legal Write for Windows 2000, a package locally developed by Brilliant in co-operation with a firm of attorneys to give small businesses quick, simple and effective assistance in the writing and drawing up of legally binding contracts and agreements that are so frequently required in the course of everyday business.
QuickBooks Pro V8 has a host of new features, including Internet connectivity to automatically email invoices and purchase orders directly from the program; and "company" and "customer" centre facilities that make all of the most critical business information available to the user in one easy-to-read, easy-to-customise place and allow quick, well-informed decisions to be made that keep the business on track.
Quicken Deluxe 2000 also has a number of new features with Internet integration, graphic financial controls that allow people at a glance to keep track of where their money is going, and many ease of use elements, including jargon-free simple, instructions.
