Johannesburg, 03 Aug 2000

Computer Associates International, Inc. (CA), the world ` s leading eBusiness solutions provider, has announced Neugentsii, the complete solution for building real-time intelligent eBusiness applications.

Neugentsii empowers businesses to quickly build and deploy intelligent components, enabling applications that adjust, predict and respond to eBusiness needs in real-time. By monitoring business processes, discovering relationships, detecting patterns and learning the underlying principles that drive eBusiness, Neugentsii predicts the effect of change on future business results.

From dynamically personalizing a Web site to predicting market trends and business outcomes, Neugentsii-based solutions enable eBusinesses to capitalize on market opportunities and deliver unprecedented levels of to their customers. Neugentsii help build intelligent applications that enhance and optimise all aspects of a business, whether it is B2B, B2C or traditional back-end processing.

"By embedding intelligence into new and existing applications, Neugentsii can help eBusiness instinctively identify new markets, spotlight new sources of revenue and intelligently automate business functions," says Carl Hartman, CA vice president, eBusiness management. "Neugentsii not only recognize changing business conditions, but can also predict outcomes and suggest courses of action to avoid potential problems and capitalize on eBusiness opportunities."

An eCommerce site, for example, can use Neugentsii to learn the attributes and preferences of their best customers from past experience, and then combine that profile with current click-stream to create a real-time sales opportunity by matching the right products with the right customers at the right time.

"Until now, eBusiness intelligence has been addressed primarily by first-generation rule-based customer/product matching schemes with limited effectiveness in today ` s rapidly changing market conditions," says Steve Garone, IDC program vice president. "Neugentsii represent a more sophisticated level of intelligence, where user-trained neural nets dynamically adapt to real-time customer needs for a far more personalized eBusiness experience."

Leveraging CA ` s patented neural network technology, Neugentsii enable eBusinesses to monitor inventory levels and sales figures to enhance effective business operations. Operating in real-time, Neugentsii provide dynamic content through information portals-offering new products and services, anticipating problems in the supply chain and suggesting possible courses of action.

CA offers a full range of Neugentsii services, from business assessment to full implementation and deployment. CA `s Express Discovery Service quickly delivers a fixed-price proof of concept for a Neugentsii.

Case studies:

Financial Services
The Retirement Services Division of CitiStreet, a joint venture between Citigroup and State Street Bank, provides a full range of retirement planning and health care solutions and is working with Neugents technology to examine the connection between customer characteristics and purchasing behaviour. The Retirement Services Division, which offers cutting-edge retirement planning products to private corporations, governments, not-for-profit and healthcare organizations, is working with Neugentsii to predict potential purchases of specific offerings. These predictions will help improve the success of the sales force, create increased revenue and drive the development of highly focused marketing campaigns.

"We see the use of CA ` s Neugents technology as the tip of the iceberg for developing cutting-edge eBusiness solutions for reaching our target market," says Ira Schwartz, executive vice president and chief operating officer, Retirement Services Division of CitiStreet. " In addition to increasing sales by predicting potential prospects, the wealth of business intelligence will enable us to better serve individual clients` needs. "

Utility Services Industry
Pegasus Technologies, Inc., a subsidiary of KFX, Inc., is using Neugentsii to develop automated management solutions for the power utility industry. Pegasus aims to optimise plant operation to deliver affordable energy to consumers, while protecting the environment by minimizing pollutant output. CA ` s Neugentsii technology helps enable Pegasus to develop self-tuning software that enables power companies to compete effectively in a deregulated market by producing more power and less pollutants, all without spending tens of millions in hardware expenditures.

"We are confident that Neugents technology is the least-cost, most efficient solution for cleaning the environment," says Theodore Venners, Pegasus Technologies, chairman. "In an industry in which return-on-investment is generally one to three years, the payoff for Neugents-based process optimisation is often an unheard of 60 to 90 days. "

Law Enforcement
Law enforcement agencies are increasingly using technology to track patterns in various crimes. New Scotland Yard, headquarters of the Metropolitan Police Service, is working with Neugentsii to track trends in repeat crimes. This knowledge will allow crime analysts to concentrate on serious offences and help improve crime-solving techniques.

"With CA `s Neugents technology, we expect to establish patterns in repeat crimes, such as robberies and burglaries, and identify possible suspects," says Phil Stoneman, New Scotland Yard, technology business manager. " CA `s innovative approach to the unique issues facing the New Scotland Yard will enable us to fight crime more effectively and provide an even safer community."
