SYSTIMAX Solutions, the global market leader in the design and manufacture of structured connectivity solutions and services for businesses, today announced that Bristol-Myers Squibb, the global pharmaceutical company, is using SYSTIMAX Structured Connectivity Solutions (SCS) at its new Belgian headquarters in Braine-l'Alleud near Brussels, Belgium. SYSTIMAX GigaSPEED XL copper cabling and LazrSPEED multimode fibre are now operational in the new 16,000m2, 5-floor building located within sight of the scene of the Battle of Waterloo.
The high performance infrastructure opens the way for Bristol-Myers Squibb to benefit from bandwidth intensive applications that will improve collaboration and productivity across its Belgian organisation. SYSTIMAX SCS connect all the building's key voice and data systems, including access control, and provides the throughput needed for new generations of applications in the future. Among the first of these new applications to be implemented will be Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) and video conferencing.
The network infrastructure supports end-to-end LAN connections operating at 1 Gb/s and above. When required, the SYSTIMAX GigaSPEED XL cabling will comfortably support Gigabit Ethernet connections to more than 2,000 outlets throughout the offices. Within the network backbone, SYSTIMAX LazrSPEED fibre can support 10 Gb/s transmission without expensive singlemode electronics.
In total the building is equipped with 240kms of GigaSPEED XL and 6kms of LazrSPEED cable. This is connected through satellite communications rooms on each floor equipped with SYSTIMAX 1100 Series, RJ45 type patching hardware. Global Core Technologies, a Bristol Myers Squibb informatics division, and its consultants, DB Associates, chose SYSTIMAX copper and fibre solutions based on their performance and high quality. These allowed them to match the exacting specifications they had set for the new network infrastructure.
Design and planning for construction of the building and its major systems, including cabling, was managed by DB Associates. To complete the installation on time, All Professional Services NV, a SYSTIMAX BusinessPartner provided a team of five on-site installers and a project leader who coordinated cabling work with all the other building fit-out activities.
