Bryan Hattingh Independent Services (BHIS), an IT specialist resourcing company in the Bryan Hattingh Group, the resourcing specialist company in the JSE-listed AdVtech Group, has acquired Spicer Professional Services, the digital strategy division of JSE-listed Spicer Holdings, for an unspecified sum of cash. The acquisition is effective 1 May.
Spicer Professional Services will form the cornerstone of a new service initiative in BHIS and will play a pivotal role in the creation of what Bryan Hattingh terms "a leading service provider in digital technology". "There is much unlocked value in Spicer Professional Services," says Hattingh. "By bringing it into the BHIS stable, we believe we can help unlock this value, to the benefit of the combined staff and shareholders."
Spicer Professional Services had crafted a vision centred on digital strategy, specifically within the African context, to produce killer applications - those that irrevocably change society. It also adds some 30 professional people to complement the team of more than 300 specialist IT contractors under the management of BHIS.
"Spicer Professional Services had assembled a strong team, with a sound vision, which we wanted to retain," says Hattingh.
The company will provide business-enhancing, new-age services, such as those in the domain of WAP, Java, object technology and mobile technology.
"These are directions BHIS has been espousing for years," says Hattingh, "so they add logically to our core business. But they also signal a change in direction, which we are developing and will announce in due course."
Spicer Holdings executive chairman Sas du Toit comments that he is looking forward to working with BHIS as a business partner in South Africa for Spicer`s information security and wireless application businesses in Europe. "We intend to use BHIS as a channel for our services and products and will actively assist BHIS to transfer clients and staff as soon as possible."
