BSI standard welcomed
IT industry experts have welcomed the arrival of the new British Standards Institute specification code for business continuity, reports OneStopClick.
The code BS25999-2, which replaces BS55999-1, has been praised by professionals believing it will improve standards of disaster recovery planning.
George Hall, director of business continuity at Jermyn Consulting, said: "Anything that makes business continuity an ongoing process and communicates that it is a management issue is valuable."
Cellcom chooses Continuity
Continuity Software has announced that Cellcom has installed a Continuity Software RecoverGuard software solution to support its data protection, disaster recovery and business continuity initiatives, reports EarthTimes.
As a result of Cellcom`s rapid growth, its infrastructure had become complex, with intricate interdependencies between its business services, business protection requirements and multitude of applications.
Within the first day of deployment, RecoverGuard automatically scanned the Cellcom IT infrastructure, collecting data from storage assets, servers and databases.
Disasters raise awareness
The need for small and medium enterprises to make provisions for disaster recovery and business continuity has been highlighted by recent disasters and incidents, the Federation of Small Businesses has said, reports OneStopClick.
Spokesman Simon Briault named foot-and-mouth, bluetongue and the summer floods as events this year which have made businesses think more about how to deal with emergencies should they arise.
These may include ensuring the IT systems of a company are still running by measures such as having a remote system available and backing up data.
