British telecoms group BT and US-based video conferencing company Polycom have signed a three-year agreement to drive unified conferencing solutions into the public sector and enterprise.

Robert Hagerty, chairman, CEO and president of Polycom, says BT is a strategic for Polycom. “The joint solutions we create will enable people to connect and collaborate everywhere.”

According to Polycom, the global agreement will see the combination of Polycom's voice, video and telepresence solutions and BT's managed services. The unified conferencing solutions will be powered by BT's global multi-protocol label switching network.

The solutions will enable business-to-business collaboration for multinational companies, large organisations, as well as small and medium enterprises.

Aaron McCormack, CEO of BT Conferencing, says: “Working closely with BT's global sales force, I am pleased with our partnership and the significant potential revenue stream it will represent for both BT and Polycom.”

BT's Bridge Connect services as well as its Global Video Exchange will be integrated with the Polycom RMX conference infrastructure.

The agreement also includes plans to add Polycom-certified technical support specialists to BT's global support operation, including its 24x7 help-desk services, as well as leverage a global support programme.

The first set of offerings is expected to be rolled out by the end of the year. The companies say they are continuing joint development of Polycom immersive platforms and will release additional services in the near-future.
