BTG signs LAR agreement, launches Xpert Client in SA

Johannesburg, 05 Sep 2001

Bytes Technology Group (BTG) yesterday announced that it is about to sign a pan-EMEA Large Account Reseller (LAR) agreement with Microsoft, allowing the company to consolidate its UK, European and South African LAR contracts into a single agreement.

Rob Griggs, executive director of BTG, said: "BTG has the single largest dedicated licensing team in the UK who license and administer hundreds of client contracts. All Microsoft license agreements sold in SA are processed in Dublin in any event. Through the new Pan-EMEA agreement, BTG will be able to offer clients in Europe and SA the same Web-based facilities for ordering and subsequently their license as currently enjoyed by our UK clients."

Griggs said the agreement would mean that the turnaround time from placing an order through to delivery of the license document would be greatly reduced for local SA customers as documents will be processed directly with Microsoft in Dublin.

He added that it would mean that administrative overheads would be greatly reduced while offering more efficiency and better facilities. "This saving will allow increased investment in licensing consultants, which is our true value-add."

Griggs said that migration to the new administration system had already begun and should be completed by early November.

In a related announcement, Griggs said that BTG is about to launch Xpert Client in South Africa. The Xpert Client software, originally designed by Xpert Client Systems, is designed to assist companies with the complex licensing issues around Microsoft products.

"Xpert Client is capable of building a knowledge base of all Microsoft products that are loaded on -connected desktop devices," said Griggs. "It can then compare this to actual historic usage of that software and the licences purchased. Using the tabulated information, our consultants ... can make an informed decision as to the most cost-effective manner in which to legally license and use the software."

Griggs said that current changes in Microsoft licensing agreements meant that Xpert Client would be an invaluable tool that can immediately pay for itself.
