BTN awarded IP Communications Express Specialisation

Johannesburg, 13 Oct 2004

Bytes Technology Networks (BTN) has received its accreditation for the Cisco IP Communications Express Specialisation, having met all of the resource requirements thereof.

This specialisation certificate now enables BTN to actively support and provide customers accredited services, in and around Cisco IP Communications offerings. The certification acknowledges that a partner has the internal skills to sell, design, install and support a Cisco IP Communications infrastructure for small and medium businesses.

Says Patrick Hastings, Regional Director: Gauteng at BTN: "This is a very important accreditation to us and the timing is impeccable as it comes on the back of the communication minister`s legalisation of VOIP as of February 2005. While we at BTN provide customers with `product agnostic` solutions, Cisco is a very important partner to us and this further strengthens our relationship with them as a vendor, while at the same allows us to better our internal skills sets."

The IP Communications Express Specialisation focuses predominantly on single-site and limited-site entry-level converged networks, within the entry to mid-tier markets where the network requirements demand less complexity. The products within this specialisation set include Cisco CallManager Express, Cisco IP Phones and Cisco 1700, 2600, and 3700 Series Routers.

Hastings adds that this accreditation from Cisco further endorses BTN`s drive to become a trusted advisor in the advanced technologies arena - with an emphasis on storage, VPN security and IP communications/telephony.

Comments George Atrash, Channel Manager Sub-Saharan Africa at Cisco Systems: "IP communications solutions are a major component of Cisco`s future product and services offerings, and it is with this in mind that it is critical for us to ensure we have the right skills in our channel to be able to deliver our customers the right solutions. This is even more relevant with the recent announcement of the local legalisation of VOIP by the Department of Communications."

According to Cisco, by achieving an IP Communications Express Specialisation BTN will be able to boost its credibility with customers as a partner of choice in the delivery of advanced voice applications, using IP as the transport technology that spans the customer premise to the network core.

"The acknowledgement of partners like BTN, for their efforts in investing in the resources to deliver specialised services, is just one of the steps we are taking in positioning ourselves as a viable technology solution in IP-based communications infrastructure solutions," ends Atrash.
