BudgetHub.org enters cyberspace

Johannesburg, 02 Nov 1999

South African financial professionals will welcome a new global Web site dedicated to issues, trends and insights about planning and budgeting. Local organisations are recognised globally as being advanced in terms of budgeting processes and thinking, and it is hoped they will contribute to keeping the site dynamic and informative.

BudgetHub.org has entered cyberspace as the `s first Web site focusing completely on planning and budgeting in today and tomorrow`s organisations. Launched in August, it is a not-for-profit, online resource presenting an objective, `online community` approach to articles and interviews about enterprise budgeting, as well as offering a venue for exchanging ideas and information about planning and budgeting.

Its primary objective is to keep the people responsible for enterprise budgeting systems well-informed about best practices, case examples, advancing technologies, and emerging trends - with content from financial analytical vendors, analyst firms, journalists, professional organisations, and independent consultants.

BudgetHub has the support of US financial applications company, Comshare Inc, which is represented locally by SPL, a member of the Dimension Group. Comshare will provide the necessary resources to maintain the site and solicit content for it. With the help of interested professional finance and accounting organisations and independent industry research groups, further support for the Web site is expected in the near future.

"We are excited about the launch of BudgetHub, because it gives everyone a one-stop resource for the latest thinking behind successful planning and budgeting," says Gavin Steinberg of SPL. "The site will advance the knowledge of enterprise budgeting, and we expect it to be an invaluable resource to local financial professionals. We also believe that South African professionals can contribute significantly to the Web site."

BudgetHub editors will look for audience participation in the form of written articles for publication and willing interviewees. In this way, planning and budgeting experts from organisations of any size and industry will be a vital part of the site as contributors to the site`s calendar of published content.

"The strength of BudgetHub is its broad, unbiased treatment of the issues and trends in planning and budgeting," said Lawrence Serven, principal with the US-based Buttonwood Group and author of the best-selling book, Value Planning: The New Approach to Building Value Every Day. "BudgetHub will prove to be a key resource to anyone involved in their organisation`s planning and budgeting process."

In addition to articles and interviews, BudgetHub`s content will include a threaded discussion board, conference listings, links to other financial sites, and an online bookstore, and will be easy to use through an intuitive navigation scheme.

Its target audience includes financial professions - CFOs, controllers, accounting professionals, MIS managers - who deal with an array of issues related to planning, creating, implementing, and managing corporate budgeting systems.
